ChaCha Search Toolbar - Internet Explorer

The ChaCha Search Toolbar has a sleek, professional look, but it’s marred by some issues that occasionally make the icons appear twice. Each duplicate icon is stacked on top of the original, so it’s a bit like experiencing double vision.

In addition to the search field, there are a handful of buttons that include a pop-up blocker, a search-term highlighter, and links to shopping sites. There’s also an autofill button that will populate Web forms after you fill in a form through the toolbar. It covers name, e-mail, phone, and address, but you can fill out as many or as few options as you like. It doesn’t cover any account information. You easily can add or remove buttons, and there are settings to keep your search history and open a new window for searches. All searches lead to ChaCha, a site that offers a live guide to answer your questions. There’s a button on the toolbar to go to the site and ask a guide a question, but you can’t submit one directly through the toolbar. As noted, several of our testers experienced issues with the toolbar’s appearance. Resizing the browser window or closing a tab sometimes caused the toolbar icons to double and blur a bit.

It works fine as a search tool, but there’s nothing that distinguishes this freeware toolbar from hundreds of other options. If you’re already a ChaCha fan, that may be the one reason to install this over other toolbars.
