  1. Complete a Registration and Titling Application.
  2. Gather the required documents as follows:
    • Proof of ownership – this may be the vessel title, manufacturer’s statement of origin, or previous registration;
    • Bill of sale;
    • Proof that the Massachusetts sales tax has been paid.
  3. Submit the application and registration documents to a local Massachusetts Environmental Police office.
  4. Provide payment for the registration and titling fees (see current fees).

    • There will be fees to be paid such as sales tax, excise tax based on the value of the vehicle among others

The new owner must bring the following documents to the Registry of Motor Vehicles (Find Office).

  • Boats
    • Completed and signed vessel bill of sale
    • Pay sales tax at the Department of Revenue’s website – Afterwards, the ST-6 or ST-6E form will be required
    • Vessel Registration Application
    • Title including the written transfer and signature by the seller – If a new vessel, the Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin is required as well
