Shred
Delete and format operations remove the references to the data in order for its storage space to become available again for new writes, which makes it possible for recovery tools to view and recover deleted data. This would make disclosure of private information possible should the storage media be sold or stolen. Shred is a data shredding application that overwrites existing data -according to the specified number of passes- with zeros, ones and random data before deleting it.
