Get Me Software

It’s OK that this free toolbar doesn’t have any functionality beyond searching for software, but since it only leads to one site, you’re better off adding the site to your favorites rather than giving up valuable real estate on your browser window. Get Me Software is an Internet Explorer add-on, and its interface is simplicity itself, consisting of one field to enter your keywords and one button to initiate the search.

You may find it a little confusing, however, that when you download Get Me Software, it shows up in IE as the Softhall.com Toolbar. While the publisher states quite openly that the toolbar only does one thing, we would have appreciated more honesty in just where it would search. Other search toolbars provide results from multiple search engines, and you choose which sites to go to. Whatever you call this software, it only goes to Softhall.com. And even though the site claims that it’s the source for free downloads, you can’t actually download a single program from it. It offers a directory of software, but all links lead to external sites. This isn’t really any quicker than doing a regular search.

It’s easy to use and free, but there doesn’t seem to be a compelling reason to give up toolbar space for the limited functionality that Get Me Software (aka the Softhall.com Toolbar) offers.
