4.0/5

Review by Giorgiana Arghire on July 21, 2014

What’s new in FolderTimeUpdate 1.60:

  • Added new option: ‘Update folders in the following depth range’. You can choose, for example, to update only the date/time of the base folder or to update only the date/time of subfolders at level 1 and 2. The default range is from subfolder level 1 to infinite.
  • This option replaces the previous ‘Update also the base folder’ option.
  • Added ‘Modified Difference’ and ‘Created Difference’ columns, which display the time difference between the original folder time and the new folder time generated by the FolderTimeUpdate tool.
  • Fixed the /cfg command-line option to load the .cfg file from the current directory if full path is not specified.

Whenever you change the contents of a folder, its Modified Date attribute is also updated, thus helping you keep informed regarding the last time you created, deleted or edited a file from the said directory.

FolderTimeUpdate is a handy application that enables you to automatically alter the Modified Date attribute of one or multiple directories at the same time.

Portability and ease-of-use within a straightforward app

The graphic user interface (GUI) of FolderTimeUpdate is intuitive and user-friendly, making it possible for novices and experts alike to make the most of its functions.

Furthermore, the application also comes with a Simulation mode, so that you can experiment with the updated timestamp until you are satisfied with the results, and only afterwards apply the changes.

Edit the Modified Date for multiple sub-folders in one go

You need to start by selecting the so-called base folder, where all the sub-directories you are interested in are located. You also get the possibility to select the sub-folders depth, depending on your necessities.

Next, you can set FolderTimeUpdate not to process empty folders or to apply a certain timestamp that you manually specify. The final step is the specify the type of information that should be included within the log: all items, only failed items or no details.

Export the results to HTML reports for later analysis

When you have adjusted the parameters according to your liking, you can proceed with changing the Modified Date attribute of your selected folders. Once this process is completed, you can export the results to an HTML report that can come in handy for later examination.

All in all, FolderTimeUpdate is a nifty software utility that enables users to alter the timestamp of a folder and it sub-directories with ease. Due to the simulation mode, you can make sure you do not accidentally process wrongly chosen folders. So i just updated my Win10 to 1903 on the slow track. After doing so i have date separators in my downloads folder that i can’t get rid off. it’s driving me crazy, my downloads are separated like email – today, yesterday, etc.

I’ve reset the folder view numerous times but the separators remain. i’ve tried changing the info in the submenu arrow in the modified column but that doesn’t help. Sorting by name or type just sorts them all under their date.

Every other folder in File Explorer opens virtually immediately to show all contents but why does the Download folder have to reload the contents, which takes quite some time, the first time the folder is accessed after switching on. Is it possible to speed it up?

Windows 10 users have noticed that the loading time of some Windows folders is far longer than the others. This happens when the PC user opens File Explorer (formerly known as Windows Explorer), searches for a particular folder, and tries to open it. While Documents, Music, Pictures, Music, OneDrive or any other folder is loaded in a second, it has been noticed that Windows Downloads folder often takes more than 10 seconds to load. Windows Download folder is probably the one accessed on a daily basis, so waiting in frustration for the most important files or documents to be loaded may be a very annoying experience. Not to mention, if your Download folder is loading slowly, you may be negatively surprised if you would try to upload a photo/video or any other file from that folder to the social media profile, for example, Facebook.

We have noticed that experts often ask people what the last time they emptied the Windows Download folder was. According to them, the overfilled folder may be the culprit of the issue. However, the content of this folder should not influence its loading time, especially if you are using a relatively new PC with a speedy SDD. The reason why the Downloads folder’s loading time has been elongated is the fact that Windows automatically creates thumbnails for photos and videos within it. Luckily, it’s possible to modify settings to make Downloads folder open more quickly.
