Time Machine is a tool developed by Apple that makes incremental backups of your Mac laptop or desktop to an external hard drive. If you use a MacBook Pro laptop, Time Machine can help you restore important business files that you’ve accidentally deleted. The Mac OS X operating system comes preinstalled with the Time Machine tool, but you must enable it to start the backup process.

1

Click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen and select “System Preferences…”

2

Click on the “Time Machine” control panel icon in the System section.

3

Move the slider on the left side of the window to the “ON” position.

4

Connect your external hard drive to your MacBook Pro using a USB cable, and turn on the device’s power supply.

5

Click on the “Use as Backup Disk” button in the dialog box that appears when the computer recognizes the hard drive. Time Machine now begins making an initial backup copy of your MacBook Pro.
