World War One is a historically accurate turn based strategy game that allows players to command the armies and battleship fleets from one of eight major nations including Great Britain, Germany and Russia, as they try to ensure victory and restore peace in Europe during the Great War. Commanding from the Prime Minister’s office, players must manage troops, coordinate strategic movements with allies, attack enemies, select generals, organize war production, engage in worldwide diplomacy, negotiate with the national parliament or support technological research. Playing as the Lord Kitchener or Sir Winston Churchill, the strategy may involve the need to relieve pressure on the Western front and invade the Turkish Straits to open sea access to Russian allies. However it is crucial that such a move does not leave other areas undefended, as Britain’s main rival Germany expands its army and naval fleet.
Players may also elect to invade foreign soil to enlarge the front and expand their rule on a European or global scale. Careful tactical decisions could ensure an easy victory and mass domination. However, attacks that are not carefully planned or supported may lead to a severe loss of troops and forced retreat. Alternatively, the best tactic may be to ensure the survival of the existing order, defending the current territory to maintain the status quo. Despite being a safe option, this may confine and restrict a nation, preventing it from expanding its powerful rule. A number of scenarios and grand campaigns are available to play between the years of 1914-1918, some spanning the whole four years of World War One. Players can also change history, taking charge of their armies and fleets in a unique what if scenario. Regardless of the scenario chosen and the tactics employed, gamers must think carefully, anticipate enemy moves and prepare for battle at any given moment
World War One is a turn-based strategy prepared by the studio AGEOD, known from several other similar titles. A characteristic feature of the works of these artists is a faithful representation of the historical realities prevailing in an age in which the production is based. We see this in both parts of the Birth of America and Napoleon’s Campaigns.
The Entente World War I Battlefields is a real-time strategy players transferring to World War I, in 1914-1918, where they can take command of the forces of one of the five countries together in the armed conflict, i.e.. Germany and Austria belong to the axis powers, and Russia, France and the United Kingdom belonging to Allied. The whole game was created taking into account contemporary realities, ranging from design and implementation of interface until after the appearance of the units, the architecture of the buildings and fighting tactics – all as a matter of fact, with only one exception-it’s like end the war depends only on our moves.
Players are military and political leaders trying to lead the troops, fleets, diplomats and economy of their respective nations to victory, in the midst of some of the toughest operations during those four years of the “War to End All Wars”.
Some of the key years of campaign between 1914 and 1918 are playable via a separate scenario.
Smaller scenarios will allow recreation of some limited theatre campaigns, while advanced ones will of course recreate the complete Grand Campaign covering the whole war from August 1914.
What-if scenarios with alternative warplans and course of events in the openings rounds of the summer of 1914 are included for alternative gameplay.
